In special circumstances, you may have a need that you cannot cover with your standard benefit or your savings.
Such an unavoidable need may arise, for example, due to loss, damage or theft. In such an emergency situation, a benefit in kind or cash benefit can be provided as a loan.

You must repay the loan. This is done by paying you five percent less of your standard needs each month (offsetting).
There is no legal entitlement to a loan. A loan is an absolutely exceptional case that is always associated with debt for you. The Jobcenter is interested in avoiding debt for you as far as possible. Therefore, the Jobcenter always checks whether another solution to cover your needs is possible.
